Make: Tabletop Podium 1 of 2

**Update**
As correctly noted in the comments below by user PileOfStuff, this is indeed a lectern. My Instagram followers know I have been calling it that from the beginning. The reason I call it a podium here is, despite it being a misnomer, it is what it is most commonly called. I wanted to make sure people searching for it could find it. (I included the search term “lectern” in the tags for the video.) Thanks to PileOfStuff for pointing out the differences between a podium and a lectern.

My wife teaches a daily class for church, so she requested a podium. I’m always building things for other people, so I jumped at the chance to make this. Best part was I was able to make it mostly out of materials I already had in the shop! I think I still had to buy a 2×4…

  1. Great lectern! I'd like to build it with my son but do not have an electric saw and want to get the wood cut at Home Depot or Lowes, etc. Can you please provide dimensions and specs for all the pieces of wood, etc.? Thanks.

  2. Good project (as usual).

However the pedant in me wants to point out this (incredibly common) bit of confusion:

podium: A platform on which to stand, as when conducting an orchestra or preaching at a pulpit.

lectern: A reading desk with a slanted top holding the books from which scriptural passages are read during a church service.
